National Res.&Eng. Center for Biochemical Technology is a national level engineering center integrating production, study and research into one. Now there are several subsidiary organizations such as Project and Engineering Research and Development Base, Industrial Biotechnology Institute, Bio Organic Chemical Lab and Biofacilities Lab, etc.

In these years, the center has become into a scientific and technological entity with technical advantages in fermentation engineering, enzyme engineering, cell culture of animals and plants and genetic engineering and developed more than 20 new products and technologies. It has won various honors and prizes such as "Significant Scientific Achievement Prize of the National 8th five-year High-tech Project","Significant Invention Achievement Prize", "First-grade Prize of Advancement in Science and Technology" awarded by the former Ministry of Chemical Industry, "Second-grade Prize of Advancement in Science and Technology" awarded by Jiangsu Province and "Invention and Creation Prize in Science and Technology" awarded by TIPS of UN. 1,6-fructose phosphate produced by enzymatic reaction are as good as or better in the production technology, economic index and quality than that of similar productions from Italy and Finland, and was awarded the International Significant Invention Prize and Significant Sci.&Tech. Advancement Prize of National 8th five-year Project. L-phenylalanine, D(-)-p-Hydroxyphenylglycine produced by enzymatic reaction are key project of national 9th five-year period and D-phenylalanine produced by enzymatic reaction is the key project of national 10th five-year period. Moreover, DL, L and D-phenylalanine,D(-)-p-Hydroxyphenylglycine, L-phenylalanine, L-malic acid and hydantoin developed by ourselves have been launched into industrialized production, at the same time, we developed the new process for DL-serine, D-serine, DL-tryptophan, D-tryptophan, D-tyrosine, D-asparagic acid, orotic acid. Now, we plan to devoted ourselves to the latest field of biotechnology--the R&D of genetic engineering.

Engineering R&D Base: include fermentation engineering, enzyme engineering and pilotscale experiment production line for organic synthesis as well as a complete set of public service system.
Industrial Biotechnology Institute: include analytical apparatus lab, computer station, medical biotechnology lab, etc
Bio Organic Chemical Lab: small-scale experimental and test instruments for the systematic genetic engineering, the fermentation engineering and the enzyme engineering.
Biochemical Equipment Lab: biochemical and chemical synthesis reactor and large experimental equipment for separation, lyophilizing and drying

Nanjing Tianchen Biochemical Engineering Co.,Ltd is a hi-tech enterprise jointly founded by National Res.& Eng. Center for Biochemical technology, Nanjing Science Committee and Nanjing Chemical and Construction Company (Group). The company has successfully developed the following projects industrialization:

One-step enzymatic method to produce D(-)-p-Hydroxyphenylglycine(1,500 tons/year) and Dane Salt(2300 tons/year)

Enzymatic method to produce D-phenylalanine(50 tons/year)

Enzymatic method to produce D-tryptophan(5 tons/year)

Enzymatic method to produce D-tyrosine(2 tons/year)

Enzymatic method to produce D-serine(10 tons/year)

Enzymatic method to produce D-asparagic acid

New process of chemical synthesis to produce DL-serine(50 tons/year) , DL-tryptophan, hydantoin and its intermediates.

Membrane filtration equipment(used for sterilization and purification in fermentation and enzyme transform process)
